Singapore, as host of APEC 2009, will be organising a two-day visit programme for the spouses of Ministers attending the APEC Ministerial Meeting from 11-12 November 2009. The spouses of Ministers attending the AMM will be hosted by Mrs. George Yeo, spouse of Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Mrs. Lim Hng Kiang, spouse of Minister for Trade and Industry.

2    As part of the visit programme, the Ministers’ spouses visited the National Library Building on 11 November 2009. The iconic National Library Building is a knowledge icon located in the heart of the arts, cultural, entertainment and civic district of Singapore. The building is also internationally recognised as a 'green' building with various innovative 'green' features that contributes to Singapore’s sustainable development efforts.

3    During the visit, the Ministers’ spouses were given a tour of the Central Public Library and previewed highlights of the Singapore, South East Asian and Donor Collections. They also attended NLB’s Children’s Programme conducted by kidsREAD participants, where they were treated to a poem-telling session and were shown Asian childhood games as well as art and dance performances. The Ministers’ spouses were also treated to lunch on the top floor of the National Library Building which offered a panoramic view of Singapore’s city skyline.
